Help me find a neck humbucker for my tele

Been wanting to put a neck bucker in my MIM standard. I've upgraded the bridge to vintage/brass saddles..and that made a HUGE difference. Recently aquired a Muy Grande bridge p/up in the garage sale. Just need to find a humbucker to finish things out. Have not yet slapped the Rio Grande in. Waiting to do both at the same time for some reason.

As far as tone I'm not looking for a dark flavored pickup. I really dig the sound of the Fender wide range units they slap in the 72 RI. They seem to have a nice, almost chimey leaning towards the hi-midrange. A very focused sound. Just love the middle posistion. I've seen these on line for the $70 range. To be honest, I'd like to spend a little less.

What's out there that might balance w/ the Muy Grande and still be the tone I'm looking for? I dont think I need to have an overwound neck to match the hotter bridge do I? I would imagine a hot wound humbucker would sound fairly muddy in the neck. Just want to make sure I dont end up with a out of phase/balance issue or the whole enterprise will be fruitless. I cant really afford to go swapping at will these days, hence not wanting to spend $70 on the Fender pickup I've heard and liked quite a bit.

Seem to remember a few prior posts regarding the Dimarzio Virtiual PAF being in that ballpark. Also, GFS makes a bucker that has split poles that is supposed to emulate the Fender wide range design...but haven't seen a review of these anywhere. These are cheap (good) and fit a standard humbucker route (unlike the Fender).

If anyone has something kicking around dust in their drawers that might fit the bill shoot me a PM.

Neck Humbucker

I'm leaning towards the GFS Vintage Split Humbucker. It's supposed to be similar to the Seth lover designed Fender Wide Range Humbuckers. My only dilemma is that I'm wanting it for the neck position of my RI (Classic) Esquire and I can't decide if I want to rout out the guitar for the pickup.

Seth Lover

S.D. Seth Lover...accept no substitute. Perfect bucker for the Telecaster neck position.

A Duncan Jazz is really a fantastic neck 'bucker in my opinion.
Big, rich and clear tone.....

Either Duncan

The Seth or the Jazz would be really good. Duncan would sell a ton more Jazz Pus if they named it something else.

Could I suggest a mini? Allparts.

+1 on the Seth.
I have one in the neck of one of my teles and it sounds fantastic. Can do everything from Keef to Wes. Blends nicely with the bridge p/up too. Just remember that it is 2-conductor only, so it isn't splittable.

I have a Seth Lover...

at the neck of my red Tele, combined with a CS Texas Special bridge. They kick butt! However, my Seth Lover came as a 4-wire (plus ground). Good thing too, as I had to reverse the polarity, which would be difficult with the 2-wire, cause the shielding is also the negative leg.

i have a Seth Lover in the neck position of my G&L BluesBoy Semihollow...it sounds great.

But the best humbucker(neck and/or bridge) I've played through...which I have on my LP, is a Fralin PAF. Perfection.

Hey Brick,

How do those mini Allparts buckers compare to the Gibson mini buckers?

I like the lace sensor blue...a lot... it has that midrange thing, and nice and fat. a little dark to my ears with 250K pots, I like it with 500Ks... but the fender wide range might not be much brighter if memory...

not in a tele, but I lev lev lev my allparts golden age humbucker in the neck of a hollowbody guild... and $40 for the uncovered version NEW

also ask bill lawrence what they can do

Not Brick, but I prefer the Allparts to the old Gibsons. Have about 6 70's Gibson minis to compare to. The Gibsons are hit or miss, the Allparts always sounds great. Clear, full, and warm. Good treble clarity. We've been using them and recommending them for customers.

The Seth Lover is cool too. The one I have has no cover and is 4-wire. Zebra.
