Are standard Teles supposed to hum?

Sorry, a very beginner question. I have a Standard Telecaster, made in Mexico. The single-coil pickups are supposed to emit a slight hum, correct? That is what I have been told.

Yeah, it comes with the territory. Single coils do hum a little but you get used to it because they sound so great

Just stay away from computer screens and neon signs!

shielding the cavities will help if the hum bugs you.
