Gold Lace Sensors
I’m thinking about replacing the Dimarzio Virtual Vintage pickups in my MIJ 60’s RI Strat. The Gold Lace Sensors sound interesting, but I have never heard them. Any opinions on how they might work in this guitar, or just in general?
Thanks. Ray |

Gold Lace Sensors
If you're going to be doing a lot of recording, playing through a lot of signal processing equipment and need a quiet pickup, they may suit your purpose.
If you want great tone, especially for live playing, look elsewhere. I had a set of 'em in my '62RI (from a previous owner) and found them to be lifeless. I found someone who needed something quiet, for recording purposes, and traded him for a set of Rio Grande Vintage Tallboys. He got what he wanted. I got what I wanted. My guitar came alive. |

I have both in two different Teles ; My Tele Plus has the LS , and my Warmoth has the V V's. The LS are more sterile sounding for sure , but not nessesarily bad. I actually like the way they respond to picking attack. The output is good , and to be honest , I put em' back in after a heated converation w/ this guy who insisted you couldn't sound good w/ them.....so outta spite .....I put em back in!!!
The V V are IMHO great pups. The Br pup in the Warmoth is just killer. I wasn't sold on the neck pup , but the bridge pup snarls and twangs. They have HUGE output compaired to stock pups. I wish they could make a chrome neck pup though....the Stratish pup just don't look right ...to each his own I guess. These are two really different beasts . Try em out , you can always sell the set you don't use. CHEERS!!!

If you need quiet Strat pups, then most of the noiseless variety available will suffice - I prefer the Bill Lawrence L290's, but any Lace will do, too.
If you need to have that harmonically complex, smokey single coil tone, there are lotsa pups to choose from that'll fill the bill - right now I prefer Rio's (Stelly/Muy Grande) or Van Zandt's (Blues/Vintage Plus). Aside from noiseless or humbuzzy, it's all sonically subjective stuff and YMMV. 8) |
