Mustang Pickups (I know, not a tele)
I was thinking of buildling a mustang for my next project and I have a few questions.
You really don't hear that much about the stock mustang pickups. How are these different from, say, a stock strat p/u? More importantly, how do they sound? I've also wondered the same about Jagaur pickups, they have that metal "keeper" on them which is susposed to increase the mid range. I just wondered if you guys had any thoughts. |

I asked a similar question a while back, heres what I got:
Musicmaster, Mustang etc pickups What I found strange was that these pickups are supposedly very similar if not identical to a vintage early 60s strat pickup (except for the flat poles), but guys feel that these are not worth $100 each?? :o But a 1960 strat pickup would bring what, $300-400? I ain't buying either, but just thought that was curious. * |

Musicmaster, Duo-Sonic and ruined Duo-Sonic (also known as a Mustang
Seymour Duncan makes Mustang and Duo p/ups and has some info on them on the web site... They are typically wound pretty low. My '66 was about 6k if i remember right. They have a nice tone (imo) and my '78 musicmaster sounds real nice with just the somewhat under wound neck p/up... i love the musicmaster's added bonus! No one can yell at me for always putting it on the neck p/up... since that is all you got... The esq. is just backasswards. |
