Where to purchase Fender PUPs?

Now that I have decided which pickups to use in my Telecaster, where do I go to purchase them?

Angela's has most of the Fender pickups.

Probably the least expensive place, though, is Musician's Friend. Music123 has them, as well, but I refuse to provide a link for them....

What do you want? Someone around here may have a spare that they would let go of for a reasonable price....

Looking for the "Classic 50's" pickups

Kevin,

Sorry for posting in the wrong forum. I want to use a set from classic 50's, 60's or the Highway 1. As reported on the TDPRI forum, the part numbers are 53678 and 55216 for neck and bridge....

Thanks,

Steve

No worries....

If you don't mind my asking, though, why do you want the Classic series? I was under the impression that those were a slightly-less-expensive (for Fender) alternative to the 52RI pups and the bridge pup used in the 62 Custom Reissue.... If you're after the 50's style sound, why not just go with the 52RI?

AFAIK, Fender doesn't sell the Classic series pups separately, but there's always a chance that a dealer could order them for you...

Good luck...

Best tone I've heard - IMHO

Kevin,

I played a lot of Teles before I bought mine ('86 MIJ) and I liked the tone of the 50's classic best. The Highway 1 has the same sound, but I liked the older neck & fretboard of the classic. The MIJ that I bought has a neck very similar (if not the same) as the 50's classic, but the pickups aren't quite the same. I'm hoping that just changing the pickups and keeping the original controls will yield a tone more like the classic series.

Of course, I won't know until I try it - might have change the controls also. Even if I do have to change controls, I'll have a really great Telecaster that will have cost me less than the 50's classic or the Highway1. (at least that's the story I'm telling my wife)

Steve
