Is this a Nocaster bridge p/u?

I'm curious if this is a Fender Nocaster bridge pickup, the custom shop relic variety. ebay #2544717213. Heck, I've already bought it so I hope so. What markings will it have on it? I understand the zinc plate and a custom shop sticker attached to the plate are common. Is this true in all cases? This one appears to be an older one, before they changed over to the new spec., 2001 era. I also noticed in the picture that the bottom bobbin has notches where the coil wires are wrapped to the eyelit. I know this is seen on the earliest Fender pickups, but is it a feature on the nocaster relic pickups? What color are the lead wires usually? This one appears to have white and black. What color lead wires do the Nocaster neck pickups usually have?

Any information you can provide would be helpful.

Thanks, Twanglite

It looks like it

Although he must have told you about the base plate and the sticker, because there is nothing denoting it in the ad.

No he didn't tell me about the baseplate and sticker, I have seen them on other examples of this pickup, so I'm not sure this one has them.

Sticker...

Seems someone mentioned the other day that either the stock Nocasters in a guitar, or the ones you buy singly, don't have the sticker, but the other one does.... (Does that make sense?)

I can't remember which (stock or aftermarket) the stickers come on, so you may not be able to use that to determine whether the pickups are real...

FWIW (not much, considering you've already done it), I would never buy a pickup without better pictures or contacting the seller directly to get a better description, unless I got it super-cheap..... That said, that particular seller has good feedback, and he probably wouldn't choose this item to start taking advantage of a buyer.... Then again, he may not know much about guitars....

I'll be getting them soon. I'll reply with a description. I have noticed the seller has other high end items for sale, so it's a good bet they are authentic. He is communicative as well and I don't foresee any problems if they prove to be other than described.

Thanks for the help,

I know that seller well and he is a pretty good guy.

Actually, I've been parting out that Nocaster for quite awhile now. PeterUK picked up most of the hardware on eBay a few months ago and the neckplate recently sold on ebay (item#2534416660).

Over time, I've replaced most of the hardware with Callaham and V*ntique stuff. I recently put in a set of Suhr tele pickups. Quite different in comparison to those stock Nocaster pickups: IMHO the Suhr neck is warmer, more open sounding; the Suhr bridge is brighter, tighter, and provides more spank. I wouldn't have let those Nocaster pickups go, except I'm hoping to pickup a set of A&F style pickups someday from Alan Hamel.

As far as the sticker, I'm always unclear on when (and why) Fender switched the specs on their Nocaster bridge pickup. I'm the original owner of that 2001 Nocaster. There wasn't a sticker on that pickup, but that particular pickup also measures 10k, which I think means it is the "older" version of Fender's Nocaster bridge pickup.

Hope that helps.

I got the pickups and they spec out like the older Nocaster pickups. The bridge reads out at 10.4 ohms DC, the neck 7.8 ohms DC. They are relic'd also. On the bridge pickup, they even went through the trouble of cutting indentations near the eyelits to guide the wire, just like the old ones. There is no sticker on the zinc bottom plate, as merlinger wrote. He would know, I bought them from him and he was nice enough to deliver them. Thank you Mike, it was great meeting you, and a nice surprise that you're a member here too.

From what I have learned about the Nocaster neck pickups it appears they are Fender Vintage Tele. units. The one Mike sold me has the added relic treatment.

Well, I am looking forward to putting these pickups to use in a rock and blues tele to compliment the brighter sounding tele that I have.

Thank you, everyone, for the responses.
