Entwistle Pickups?

Anyone around these parts hear of these pickups or know much about them? The reason I ask is that EYGuitar Parts sells this brand and today I received an email from them announcing a closeout on their stock.

They're quite inexpensive but owing to the fact that EY is a Chinese vendor that's not all that surprising. Here's a list of what they're offering and their website location. There are photos of each model as well. I can't copy those but they would be pictured on their website.

I know nothing about these pickups at all and have never played one so I just posted this as an FYI. I have purchased pickguards and a few pieces of inexpensive hardware from them before. The quality was quite good and they are a reputable vendor. It just takes a bit longer for delivery is all.

Dear Valued Customers,

Thanks for your supports to us as always.

Because the pickups designer Entwistle want to sell their pickups in higher price, but we do not agree with him, so after we clear out this stock, we will not stock for this brand pickups.

Now we offer around 20% discount for most of the models on the basis of before price to clear out of them.

There's a little tiff brewing here, Entwistle claiming that they're counterfeits because ey won't raise the price. I was tempted a while back on the HV58's but went with the Giovanni's (which is the same Artec manufactured). There's a few of the HB's being sold on ebay, but you wouldn't know it without reading the fine print. Artec/Giovanni also does a tele set now too.

I'll add that I really like the GVH-1 pups I have. Have 3 other various sets I've yet to put in a guitar.

I just pulled the trigger on a set of the vintage soap bar pups. I figured for $25 delivered I'd give them a shot.

I bought a guitar last week which I paid very little for, a Vox phantom copy by Hutchins, took it to a gig and it sounded fantastic, turns out the pickups were Entwistle.

I had a twofold purpose in posting this thread.

The first was to find out if anyone had any knowledge of these pickups and if they were any good or not. I'm looking to do a build with P90s and I was curious about the tone and quality of Entwistle's in general and that model specifically. I'd never heard of them before.

The second was simply to inform members that EY was offering closeout prices on their remaining inventory in the event that anyone was interested in buying and provide a list of those pickups and their closeout prices.

Sorry if anyone was disappointed in the content but the thread actually seems to have achieved it's purpose for some posters and even if a couple of you didn't find what you were looking for here I did. Thanks for dropping by and contributing some valuable info to those who actually did.

I just did the same. Seems the winder has a very good rep and his pickups are well liked and have even been compared with some other boutique builders. I was looking for a pair of vintage type P90s for a build and you're right. For the price they're worth a shot. I see them advertised on Ebay for anywhere from $20 to $40 each so at $15 per set plus $9 shipping that seems like a pretty good deal to me.

I know their P-90's have ceramic magnets.

I have a Nashville pickup that I cannot find a mounting ring to fit it and they don't offer one. If I ever use it, I will probably have to body mount it.

I love the HV58 set I put in my Epiphone SG. I did replace the covers with raw nickel covers from mojotone music.

The noiseless strat set is very impressive as well.

The prices are great if not incredible for the products offered, but the supplier is a great and faithful vendor with a consumer conscience outlet and if you compared elsewhere you'd know why this conflict exists! I'll buy what I can til then but believe you me I have bought scores with pride and never a problem other than wishing I had gotten more while
I could. Hopefully this is not a shade of things to come!

I found the same problem but after thinking about it I searched through the Gretsch history I came across TV Jones parts and I found the listing for a pickup ring that is used for the American and British mounts as they are called and there is one that pretty much does fit the Entwistle with the mounting tabs on the Nashville Ni-ND Neodymium/AlnV 'Trons $8.00.
I'm ordering one to be sure if it is what I hope for then I'll order more, try looking it up and check for the measurements, I hope this helps you out.

I bought and installed the 50mm in the neck of a Nashville Tele with a new Pickguard from GFS ,the sounds are very Bluesy and not too thick as to muddy up the chord but leads were mid jazz to blues semi bright and pinched harmonic quite a surprise and different from my Gibson LP'75 Special AlnIII's. Even switched the two ceramics 7.4k to AlnII's.AlnIII's,AlnIV to AlnV's the best of the 4 were the AlnIII's, jazzy like 50s PU-290 and sustained easily...worth every penny, not sure if they're scatterwound but the overall attack were very transparent and the dynamics changed from light or hard just like the PU-290s when strummed or picked, overall here is the ceramics when used with a compressor with a OCD by JOYO big Paf sound and great harmonics I compared 4 different P-90s from Artec Wilkinson Gibson,?, all different but I can tell you the DCR makes all differences and the string gauges mostly but as for money you'd be missing out for the lil dinero P-90s are a thing of beauty and not alot of noise in comparison to other single coils I really liked the Entwistles and I'm hearing the prices are going up on Entwistles hope this helps you some. BTW some distributors believe that all P-90s are the same size as far as 50mm for both neck and bridge and DCR'd differently and reversed wound. Entwistles are noted as 48mm neck and 50mm bridge. Others come as 50mm for neck and 52mm bridge so keep this in mind when researching it'll save you headaches later!

i could be wrong, but i believe Entwistles are made by Artec, who make most of the imported pickups these days (GFS, Duncan Design, Giovanni, Wilkinson, etc etc). i don't think Alan Entwistle actually winds his own pickups: he designs them and then Artec manufactures them for him. that's why they're so inexpensive.

most Artecs are actually pretty nice pickups, but i wouldn't want you to think you're getting handwound "boutique" pups or anything.

most Artecs are actually pretty nice pickups, but i wouldn't want you to think you're getting handwound "boutique" pups or anything.
I've always imagined with the amount of specs they get asked to manufacture, Artec produces a lot of unbranded pups that are almost, if not entirely, the same ad-hyped pups you pay for through various dealers. It's no different in my profession (non music).

I think I own 1 pair of SD's, couple boutique I got cheap, but the majority are Artec. I will say, a set of Keystones are on my list.
