Im a little odd. My favorite Tele neck pickup is a reversed wound Kent Armstrong P90. It adds my Sg Special/Pete Townshend obsession to the tele. I was amazed the first time I played throigh that P90 in my tele. But for regular, basic Tele neck pickups I really like the OV, I might change my mind when I recieve my Nocaster neck pickup next week.

I love my Kent Armstrong Mini HB on my 17" arch top (Triggs), it's only KA PU I know.Have you tried Harmonic Design neck PUs like "Vintage Plus" and or "Super Chrome"? They are a sort of P90 style PUs. Vintage Plus sounds thick, fat and round but even clearer and smoother than stock tele PUs and Super Chrome sounds more like traditional tele neck but fatter with P90 power. They have much better S/N ratio than my 2 real P90s from '50s, and of course they are a bit more Fenderish; Vintage Plus neck is a little Stratish, Super Chrome more like tele neck, both in texture (attack). Anyway thanks for the great info. |

fralin stock
rumpelstiltskin 1950 blackrope both are open and articulate, probably due to the nickel-silver cover. brass tends to be darker.

I like the Texas Special for the neck. Can't say I like their bridge pickup though.

In other words, I'm not a huge fan of the classic Tele neck pickup (though I have a Fender Classic in my other Tele and it's OK).
