Wilkinson Tele pickups: underwound, Nancy on the cheap?

Does anyone here have any experience with Wilkinson Tele pickups? Are they made with AlNiCo or ceramic magnets? How do they compare to other popular Tele pickups in tone? StewMac's info says the bridge is 5.9k and the neck is 4.6k, underwound compared to the average Tele pickup, maybe they would be good for a hint of what the underwound pickups sounded like in Roy's Nancy, or one of the boutique pickups made to similar specs?

I had one in a MIM Standard many years ago, and it didn't make enough of an impression on me to bother keeping it when I sold the guitar.

Sorry for not being much help.

After I asked that here, I emailed Stewmac and asked them. Mike McGovern wrote back and said they are AlNiCo. Hmmm, I feel like I'm talking to myself. :)

If you wanted "Nancy on the cheap" I think you'd be better off buying a set of customwounds from Pete at Vintage Vibe Guitars. He'll wind whatever you want and the pickups are FANTASTIC quality. You can get a set right now on fleabay direct from him for $95 or $105 'Buy it Now'. My Tele neck pickup cost $45 postage included.

FWIW, I have a Duncan Broadcaster bridge pickup that to my ears nails the Buchanan tone perfectly...and it's 8.2K! 5.9k and 4.6k are severely underwound IMO. If that's what you want though, I'm sure Pete can do it.

Pete at Vintage Vibe - how to contact?

What's Pete's ebay userid, or other means to contact him? There are ebay userids with the names vintage_vibe, vintagevibe, vintage*vibe, and vintage-vibe. None of those have any Tele pickups for sale or an "ebay store" page that I can find, with any contact info.

When you bought your neck pickup, did he wind that one to your specs, and sell you just that one pickup, for only $45 shipped? Do you know which type(s) of AlNiCo magnets he uses?

I have a couple of SD Broadcasters and I like them too. But I'd like to try one that is actually underwound and made by someone who thinks they can make a good underwound, to hear what an underwound sounds like.

Pete's eBay username is "vintagevibeguitars":

http://stores.ebay.com/Vintage-Vibe-...Q3amesstQQtZkm

He also has a website:

www.vintagevibeguitars.com

And yes, it was $45 for the neck custom wound (I think the bridge is a little more $$). That was shipped (but I also bought 2 P90s at the same time)

He uses alnico 5, but ceramic or alnico 2 on request.

He's also a nice guy that will answer your emails and chat on the phone before winding your pickups.
