Kinmans AVn48 vs. AVn60 vs. Output of PAF

Hello, posted a while ago and you guys were really helpful, thanks.

I decided to go for Kinman's pickups for my telecaster, I listen to a lot of soundclips and I love his better, I *think* I like the AVn60 series better than the AVn48, but might just be a temporary preference. The issue here is that I will be changing pickups in my humbucker type guitar for PAF style pickups not sure which yet and i don't want to have a big output difference since these are two guitars i use live and i often switch between them. How do the kinmans compare to most PAF style pickups in output out there ?

I know the AVn48 series has a bit more output, but i think i like the AVn60 series better... I wish i could find clips of both with more gain.

Thanks, Francis.

the 48 will have a bit less output than a mid, or perhaps even a low output, PaF (7-8k). I'd say it's about the same as a filtertron, p90 or a minihumbucker.

the 60 will be much less output, especially in the mids, than a paf.

Have you been here yet?

http://www.soundclick.com/thekinmanexperience

Once there, go to the music page, scroll down and download the following clips...

2005 Ash Kinman 48s Raw Track Direct to Board

and

2001 Alder Kinman 60's Raw Track Direct to Board

both these tracks are down towards the bottom of the page.

I recorded them as pickups straight to the recording desk, no amp, so that people could download them and run them through their own amp or effect amp chains and see what it would be like...

maybe this can help you? I dunno but thought I would mention it.

The 48s have a lot more output than most single coils, but not as much as a low output PAF style humbucker.

I have the 48s in my Tele, Duncan Antiquities in my LP, and Fender '62 RI pickups in my Strat. The LP is loudest, followed by the Tele, then the Strat. The Tele is closer to the Strat than to the LP.

That said, I don't have any problem switching back and forth, and I can get very delicate soft sounds out of the Tele, including "chicken picking" and stereotypical Tele sounds.

The right hand is the trick, not the pickups.
