New Bill Lawrence's new L298

Curious to see if anyone has tried out Bill's new pups? I'm going to order a 298SL for my USA Burton Tele (came stock w/ Strat Lace Sensors). I already have L280's in all three slots and the 298 is going in the bridge slot. I spoke to Becky yesterday and she told me that the 298 definately hits P90 territory. I'd apreciate hearing from anyone who has used the 298's.
Also, the Burton Tele has a master volume and master tone... wondering if I'd be able to use a Q-filter if I had a stacked tone control (2 in 1) installed.

Gracias!

I'm anxious to find out myself, Ray. I ordered a L298 for my strat last Saturday. Becky said they plan to run off a batch shortly...

I'll be back!

Well, wasn't that quick! I ordered my L298 strat bridge pickup on July 30th, and it showed up a mere 10 weeks later!

Anyhow, I just installed it with L280's in the neck & middle in my Jimmie Vaughan Strat.

I've got an Am Std strat with the L280-L280-L290 set, and I like the L280-L280-L298 better. The bridge pickup is just a shade closer to a P90 than the L290, but still gives a pretty good 2nd position quack tone.

When I play the Am Std I raise the L290 in the bridge a good bit higher than the neck & middle, so I can turn the bridge tone control down to about 6 or 7 to roll-off the harshness and still have the volumes pretty evenly matched. With the L298 I can leave the bridge tone pot full up...it doesn't have the harsh too-trebly tone that so many strats have in the bridge position.

One note, however...the L298 is not quite as quiet as the L280's...but it's only really noticeable when I'm 18" from my PC monitor. You can't really hear it when playing through an amp though.

Cool pickups, especially for the money...the BL L280/L290/L298 series are my favorite silent strat pickups, mostly because I think the 'tweener tones are better than the Kinman's.

Thanks CB

Cool review thanks. I have a James Burton Tele (usa 3 strat pupos). I have three L280's in it now and will probably go with the 298. Thanks again!
