Jim Weider Endorsed Tele Neck PU

Does anyone have any opinions of this Jim Weider endorsed Tele neck pick-up? I forgot the brand name. I've seen the ad in every issue of Vintage Guitar Magaizine and am curious about it. Any thoughts? Opinions? I've always had the complaint that when I switch (rarely) to the Tele NECK pick-up, it sounds like someone suddenly stuffed a pillow in front of my amp. Muddy and dull. I'm wondering if this might be the answer to ALL life's problems.

Or think about the Fender Twisted Tele - it one BRIGHT neck pup. Had one for a few years in my tele. Down right "straty".

Now, this demo has the J. Weider "Analogman" neck pup

I think it will definitely cure the pillow over the pickup issue! I got one for that very reason.

It's all a matter of what sounds best to you, but it's a great neck pickup.

IIRC it's made by Lindy Fralin and I swear by his single coils. I'm hoping to try one soon.

Ah ah, for me it is the other way round. I rarely switch to the bridge pick-up.

Funny you should say that. A professional friend of mine says the same thing. He spends almost all his time on the neck pickup or both, only rarely going to the bridge. Myself, I'm more the opposite.

I think it's a symptom of having two pickups that sound so different. A player will tend to eq one of the pickups to sound good, and the other will then sound too bright or too mellow.
Or you learn to make use of the huge variety of sounds...:-)

Good point. That said, those using that way miss the great versatility of the Tele. The key words here are Tone pot control !

I think that is a very good point (everyone's posts have been helpful...thank you). I gig pretty much every weekend for past ten years or so and it HAS BEEN my habit to "eq" the amps to make the bridge pick-up sound as good as I can. So then I switch to the middle or neck position and cringe! JUST RECENTLY I've started setting up my amp before a gig while my Tele is in the middle position. I then back the tone knob off while playing in the bridge position, and cranking the tone to "11" when playing the middle or neck positon. So...I do think that is an excellent point.

This is some advice someone gave for a les Paul, but I think it also applies to Teles: eq the amp for the neck pickup, then roll off the tone for the bridge, and still have some extra treble in reserve for when you need it.

I give that a try for the next gig. See if I can't bring that neck pickup to life without losing the twang on the Bridge. Good advice ya'll.
