I am finally finishing up my Strat Esquire, and looking for a humbucker sized pup that is not too hot, just jangly...maybe a Lollartron? Any other suggestions? This will be for some Cowboy Surf Jazz....

Sorry....yes, it is a hard tail strat with only a bridge humbucker. Cowboy Surf Jazz is the only way I can think to describe my sound. Mostly cleans with various amounts of reverbs and delays, sometimes neck pickup is used, sometimes the bridge pickup. I am looking for something to replace the current pickup in the guitar which is too hot.

Mean 90 would be fun, but I like the look of no covers on Strats.

I'm doing a similar project and just ordered a single Duncan SH-16 (the new '59/Custom Hybrid).

I have a just a bridge p/up guitar w a SH-14 Custom 5 Duncan. I have it w a DPDT toggle that grounds either the Screw or Slug coils and gives the opposite as the Hot. 2 different sounds. Not extreme, but no problem telling which its set on. I have it Screw coil toward the neck (reverse of normal) That gives 2 very good tones from the switching. When normally mounted (Screws toward bridge) it gives an excellent tone w the Slug coil grounded (normal) and a good tone w the Screws grounded (reverse wired ). I prefer the 2 very good to the excellent/good. But try the different mounts and coil grounding for yourself. You might find a prefered set up even if you don't bother w a switch.

I just checked out the SH-16 on the D site. Because of its unequal coils, choosing which coil is grounded makes an even bigger difference, so be sure to try switching the hot and ground leads. Mounting differences will also be magnified.

Cute! I like different & artistic expression. I did a asian tele to esquire with polowania wood body, maple neck, eldred mod, oil filled .005 pf cap (cocked wah) and a Amalfitano tp (9k) pick up, and I absolutely love it. Very happy with the quality of Jerry Amalfitano's product. Good luck on your project.
