Is Fred Stuart still winding ? How to get in touch ?
I've read on an old thread about Fred Stuart's Clarence White bridge clone. I wonder if anybody knows how to get in touch with him. All I found was the Virtual Vintage website, but no way to get in touch with him directly. Any ideas ?

He has some guitars and pickups offered here.
Don't know if he has his own web page or not. (you would think so) Ididn't spend time looking. Maybe you can find it from here. http://virtualvintageguitars.com/gui...art/stuart.htm Never mind, I didn't read the last bit of your post. I nearly know I've been to his website in the past, but can't find it now. |

I just ordered a 60's stagger pole set that is going to be slightly overwound to provide more midrange. I paid huge for it. I REALLY hope they sound killer. The '63 CS Tele pickups that are in the guitar are awesome pickups, I think I'm just chasing that last little bit. Plus, I'm not sure how long someone like Fred will be doing this, so I sucked it up and ordered them.

I'll try to get this in my guitar ASAP and report back. My '63 Relic Tele sounds soooo good, I'm hesitant to change anything. It's just that I've wanted a set of Fred's pickups in one of my guitar's for as long as I can remember. I will most likely hold on to my '63 pickups when they're swapped out. I usually sell off my extra pickups, but these particular 63's sound exceptional. I asked Jason to have Fred wind these so they are a bit more midrangy and less spanky as my CS pickups already cover that. Jason has been really responsive and easy to deal with. I moved on these also because I heard that Fred winds his pickups on the warmer, darker side. That's where I want to go with my sound. I think if you're on the fence and you really want them, just do it. You may not always be able to. As an aside, I ordered a set of Slider's post '58 Tele pickups wound with NOS wires for a future guitar. Who knows when NOS wire will be gone. WTF, it's only money.

I got pickups from fred through jason a few years ago... they are in my main tele... every year I fall more deeply in love with that guitar and those pickups.... I can't remember what I paid for the pickups, I know it was expensive, but it kind of fades over the years... I think my joke was that they cost two nights of hard drinkin' at a bar.. well worth it!

I hear ya. The particular pickup will cost me a little under two gigs' money, which is not bad either if you look at it that way.

using their data and mine, it is less expensive and I am healthier doing what I do than what they are doing... (which is not a dig against golf) but, when I think about how I spend and on what...buying cool stuff and having good gear... is manageable if you forego other stuff... I'm kind of done (although I want a dd3 to replace one I gave away) buying gear... but, I have really great pieces and never want for a sound...

Oh definitely. That's what I think about too... I have friends who golf, have boats and stuff. If you compare the cost of strings, a pedal here and there, a pickup here and there, we're way ahead. Factor into that that our hobby can actually make us money, it's a no-brainer.

My brother is SERIOUSLY into fishing. I think his bass boat alone was almost $30k. He probably has close to that in related gear like poles, depth finders, etc. I agree with you guys. In relation to that, we're way ahead.

if you order his stock pickups, which will vary almost 1k in resistence, they are $150/per with shipping - $300 for a set. as i stated before, not cheap. any customization starts at around $50 on top of that
if you have tried the nocaster bridge and find it 95-98% the way there and are willing to pay for that last bit of blackguard mojo, you'll get it from fred.
