One of my buddy's was telling me that Texas Custom Brand pups are supposed to be damn good and to check 'em out on ebay. Really good price but has anyone tried them?

http://www.cf-music.com/index.html Do a search here on TDPRI, I remember someone this winter talking about them. I had recognized the name because I bought some brass saddles from them (Texas Customs). |

Yes, I did. The only thing I found about pups was:
I like them a lot, but haven't played them enough. The tele needs to be setup and have some work done on the nut. The Texas Customs have a cool, mellow twang. Looking forward to more playing. And some stuff about a bridge that seemed favorable. So as far as that goes, once again, I hope I didn't toss my dough out the window. The cat who sold them has positive feedback on Ebay so I'm pretty confident if I don't like them I can get my $$$'s back. I didn't buy a guitar from them and will never buy a guitar I can't play first. And if I want a neck, I'll go talk to Billy at B & D Guitar in Phoenix and go with his recommendation. |

Better than what was in there by about an equivalent amount as what was paid for them is how I feel so far. Haven't got to really take on good test drive as my wife works from home and has to work today. I'll get more time and volumes later today/tomorrow. So far I think I'm gonna like them. I'll probably end up changing them out after I save some dough and get a higher end set. Improving what was there on a tight budget, I'd have to say yes at this point. I'll follow up after more time is spent with them.

Follow-up: The neck pick up was a little darker than I'd really like and the bridge was a hair brighter than stock. Came from the factory with as .33 Cap. tone pot was a 500 when it should been a 250. Changed it out to a dual gang 250 w/a .22 to the neck and a .47 to the bridge and I absolutely dig it now! Neck is brighter and bridge is a fuzz darker. $50 landed for both pups, $35 for two Jensen P&O caps, $8 for the tone pot. I can't complain about the pups.

Oh yeah, by the way, since I wasn't thrilled with the neck pick-up being darker and just a scosh low from spec ohms so I called the guy. He offered to send me another one for the neck or give my my money back. The difference seemed to be within a general +/- of tolerances to me so I told him to let me play with it some and he told me to take my time the offer would stand. Talked to him last night as a follow up and he was still willing to swap it or refund it if needed. I don't think he work for them but maybe so as he always seems to be selling them.
