Jerry Donahue pick up's anyone?

Hi All,

I have a Japanese '52 RI with Texas Specials on but bridge pup has gone...

I've seen one of these JD ones for sale used.

Anyone have anything to say about how they sound? Thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Jem

I'll take that recommendation...I love the 'twang' and would hope for 'full twang'!

Sounds like my kind of pup.

How would it blend with a Tex Special neck pup?

I love the Tex by the way but if I can get a deal on both JD's I might

Imho, the best bridge pickup for tele, twangs like a vintage but with more power and a nicer tone balance. Highly recommended !

One of Seymour Duncans best Tele bridge pickups. Probably work just fine with the Texas Special.

I had one in my Chambered Ash tele with rosewood fingerboard. I could tell it was a very good pup, but it didn't seem to match well with this guitar. Seymour does recommend using a maple board, but I tried it with the rosewood anyway. He was right.

Best tele tone I ever heard in a live setting was a SD Jerry Donahue.

How is the low-end with this pickup? Does it every get mushy under higher volumes/high-gain?

You guys are good salesmen...I'm sold on the JD!

One last question...the seller is making a point of telling me the pups are from a Japanese Tele - Are there variations on the JD or are they all the same regardless of country of manufacture of guitar?

Thanks in advance

They might be the stock pickups from a Japanese made Jerry Donahue signature model guitar (mid '90s), and I don't think they used the Seymour Duncan JD, though I might be wrong. Ask the seller if they're Seymour Duncan pickups.

Yeah, be careful, there were 2 JD guitar models, MIA CS and MIJ. The CS guitars used Duncans, the MIJs were great guitars, but used MIJ pups, which were nowhere as nice as Duncans, Many folks replaced those, especially the bridge pup. A Duncan will have cloth wires, with sticker on back, the MIJ has plastic wires.

Ahhh...I see, thanks for that tip off.

Where's best place to pick up the SD JD's?

I'm in the UK.

I only need the bridge pup. Anyone here selling one?

Thanks for that link. It wasn't clear whether they shipped to UK so I called them and if it says 'international shipping' on the right hand side of the page with the product on, then they do, if it doesn't then they don't...unfortunately they do not ship to UK on that pup.
I will get it via a friend over there or just source one over here.

I can't wait to get one now....I'm pretty excited.

Yes, many thanks. Just doing the maths (and factoring in delay in getting here) in ordering from US at £45 then shipping on top or from UK at £73.

I'll post up in due course
