Seymour Duncan Vintage Lead Stack?

Has anyone out there tried this pickup? I'm thinking about putting one in my '04 '52RI. I've been doing alot of recording lately and it can get a little noisy at times. Doesn't Brent Mason have one of these in his main Tele? Thanks for your responses!

noiseless

I've tried various noiseless Tele pickups and as far as the most "Tele sounding" here would be my list from Most Tele sounding to Least Tele sounding. One small note my sonic opinion is based on using the original 250k pot and a .022 tone cap.

1-Kinman AVn-48 and 60- without a doubt the closest thing to a true Tele single coil sound. No compression and stuffy midrange tone..

2- Dimarzio Virtual T- Not bad , but they would probably sound better with 500k pots.

3- SD Vintage Stack/ BL 280- These pickups weren't very open sounding. Too middy and compressed. These pickups are quiet, but have their own vibe. They were the least Tele sounding. I liked the BL280 , but when I was digging in on the low E the sound was way too compressed.

Bottom line, if you want quiet any one of these pickups will do the trick, however if you're looking for a truer Tele single coil vibe without changing out all the pots the Kinman's have no equal in response and tone.

Yes, he sure does, in the bridge position.

ON the Seymour Duncan sound samples, the Vintage Stack STK-T3B bridge Dirty sounds livelier than the Hot Stack,
but
for those of you using them live/loud, does this Vintage stack liveliness (on recording) actually come out as pain and agony at big volume?.
And the smoother Hot Stack comes out better live/loud?
thanks

I'm thinkin Brent's MAIN tele has a nashville studio stlye or 5/2 seymour duncan. I think Brent actually was the one who got this type pickup started by having SD do a pickup for him with alinco 5 magnets for the three low strings and alnico 2 magnets for the three high strings. This keeps the top strings bright and snappy while also keeping the bottom strings from getting too bright and piercing. The vintage stack is used however in the Brent Mason Valley Arts signature guitar.

Excelent pickups indeedy...

very quiet, punchy and powerfull with a wide range of tones. You only really realise how good in a studio situ. with a decent pair of cans.
Live it cleans up a driven amp nicely by rolling of the volume.
Got to be careful with compressors tho as if you're using a nice driven valve amp and a compressor the comp seems to suck the life out of the sound with these pickups.

Hope this helps

Scotty

By SD vintage lead stack, are you referring to the BG-1400?
If that is the case, I have one in my Esquire and it works quite well for me.
At 30.2k it is a powerhouse, hang on.
Worth every dollar from the Seymour Duncan custom shop.

I just ordered one of these !
With the SD Jerry Donahue to follow, if I can't get enough clarity with my amp gain rolled back

It's a really good pickup. Someone earlier said it best....punchy and powerful. But still twangs really well. And quiet as can be. People love to slag the stacked buckers, but this is a good one.
