APC Adder T300N and 4-way switch?

Hello.

I'm trying a Brad Paisley setup on one of my teles, and bought the Adder T300N and Voodoo TE60.
I like the 4-way wiring, but wonder if you can help me regarding this with these PU's?
This neck PU has three leads - green, red and white. As you know, the 4-way method requires an additional ground lead from the pu-cover, and to cut the ground wire under the bobbin.

My first thought was that the T300N was ready for this type wiring because of the three wires, but that's not right? Anyway, the PU is totally closed as it is molded shut with some white plastic material. So it would be difficult to alter the connections without cutting it open.

Is it possible to use the 4-way wiring on this PU, and if so - how?

Thanks a lot!

Red is positive, white is neutral, green to ground on the back of a pot.

http://www.seymourduncan.com/support...matic=tele_4ws

So YOUR WHITE, would go where the black is on the above diagram
YOUR RED would go where the white is.

They mention a cover ground but don't show a wire there. Naturally your GREEN would go to the back of either pot (earth).

Don't solder the red and white on the switch just yet. Just test lead or hook the leads on the terminals. The try position 2 first, 1 being the switch nearest the volume control (bridge only).

Reason is there is no telling if that neck pup will be in phase with the bridge. If it sounds weak and tinny/nasal-ly in switch position 2 (n&b combined- parallel) the pickups are out of phase, then you can just reverse the neck red and white on the switch and you'll be good to go.

Hello again.

I've tried this now, and unfortunately it doesn't seem to work.
Your first suggestion gave me two sounds in all 4 positions - when I switched the red and white wire, I got sound in pos 1 and 2 and silence in 3 and 3.
So I guess that this pup is not prepared for such wiring.

Thanks anyway for your help.

Well it should work, may be some other problem there. Did you use the diagram I posted ? What switch do you have ?

Check all the jumpers on the switch and that you have the wire going to ground, that's the one coming off the left side of the switch in the diagram I posted.

Can you take a paper clip and tap on the pickups though the lever positions and list what pickups are working in each ?

1) position nearest the volume pot BRIDGE
4) position nearest the neck Bridge and neck series.

Some good pictures of you control plate would help too.

It would be great if you could get it to work, the 4 way is VERY NICE !!!

From the APC pups site:

"All reverse wound APCpickups have this arrangement – GREEN=GROUND, RED=HOT (twisted together), WHITE=BODY GROUND"

Sez I, try the WHITE (not green) as the ground/shield connector, straight to the BACK of the volume pot. Use the red and green as hot; if out of phase, reverse...

OK, thank you both of you.

Yeah, I know that the 4-way option is pretty cool.
I know, because I use it on 4 of my Teles.
And the guitar I mentioned here (the Brad Paisley project) is a CIJ Paisley Tele from the early 90`s.
I had Fralins on it - and a 4-way switch - and that worked great. So that's how I knew that the wiring was good, as it worked before with the Fralins.

I installed a Parsons/Green B-bender on the guitar this weekend. I know - I should have gotten a G-bender, but I've had this kit lying around for almost ten years now and just wanted to put it on. And then I bought this set with the APC Adder T300N and the Voodoo TE60. I will try one more time later, and I'm looking forward to checking out the result.

Thanks again, both of you!

Oh yes!

That worked a charm. Great pup's!
Thanks again.

As a future reference though - refer to sjtalon's diagram:

From the neck pu:
GREEN to where the black is.
RED to where the white is.
WHITE to back of pot.
