Stuart pickups not enough bite
I acquired a K-Line Nocaster some time ago. While it is certainly the best built Telecaster I have ever owned I'm just not satisfied with the sound. It came with Stuart Blackguard pickups installed. These are a very high quality pickup but I'm just not getting the country sound I want from them. I feel the Stuarts are better suited to a rock player. To me they are just dull, too thick sounding and lacking bite. If I scoop out some mids with a Graphic EQ it's a bit better but I shouldn't have to do this.
Has anybody got any suggestions for a replacement pickup of similar quality more suited to a country player? |

I found the same - they are great for alot of settings, but also one man's fat/smokey is anothers dull/thick.
To my ears I missed the metallic midrange zing of say a OV52 or Nocaster, and my ideal would be somewhere in between either extreme. Mare's 0038 came close but I think I need the 10k keefer and not the 11.5k lap wind. |

i'd say mare's hot bakelites, or fender nocasters'll do you just right. i LOVE the stuart blackguard, BTW, but it is definitely a darker, thicker pickup.
