Best bridge p/up with a neck PAF???
Greetings,
I have an older telecaster that has a gibson PAF in the neck position. I'd like to install a bridge stack humbucker in the bridge and would like to know what would be the best combination to use with the PAF. Thanks for all replies and suggestions. |

Have a 68 tele and put a D'imarzio PAF at the neck way back in 1970.
Was using a "lil 59" for a while - balances pretty well but you may not like the sound - depends on what style music you are into. Recently changed the pickguard & put back the original pick-ups as I also use a Les Paul and wanted to have a "pure" tele again for certain things. |

Wilde L-298TL or Dimarzio Area T hot would mix well with a PAF neck if noiseless is your preference. I think the Wilde noiseless are great sounding pickups and the 298 has enough output to produce some PAF level overdrive while retaining remarkably true tele character

Depends...
What kind of a wind does your PAF have? I would try to get a bridge humbucker with a similar wind that will mate well with what you have. GFS has their Li'l Puncher rail humbuckers in vintage, hot and modern winds. Other manufacturers likely offer similar items. I like my combo of a GFS Vintage '59 neck bucker with a GFS "Cool Vintage Li'l Puncher" bridge. Both of these pickups balance nicely with 500k pots. The Vintage '59 isn't muddy, and the Cool Vintage bridge gives that characteristic tele twang. The middle position sounds really good as well. Happy hunting!
