Super Chrome vs. SM-3 Seymourized
I've been looking to replace my neck pickup and have gotten thoughts both from Harmonic Design and Seymour Duncan. After telling them what I was looking for HD recommended the Super Chrome and SD recommended the SM-3.
Does anyone have experience with both of these pickups? Here's my situation: I have an ash tele with a maple fretboard that currently has seymour duncans in it: alnico pro II for the neck & little 59 for the bridge. I've felt as though the little 59 over powers the neck & the neck seems to lack the versatility of being able to push my amp (Egnater Tweaker) as I would like. I love being able to articulate so clearly on with a tele, but at times I don't play it for the tele twang. My first electric had p90s in them & I really miss that sound, as well as the way they drove my amp. While my guitar is currently not routed out for a humbucker, I am not opposed to making that happen to get the sound that I would like. I play pop/rock/funk/alternative. Effects are fairly limited--wah, delay, reverb. I like the flexibility of playing clean to a mid to heavy overdrive as well as being able to cut thru at times & do more background pad-like things at others.) Thanks for your time and you ponderings!.... |

I have an extra SM-3n sitting around that I tried in my Telemaster for a while. It certainly sounds a lot like a PAF to me...
It sounds like that is what you are looking for. I went with a brighter Dimarzio neck minibucker... I like HD pickups but have never played the super chrome. I did like the V+ neck pickup however.... |
