Tele Bridge Pups - Set'um High or Low as they go ?

Just curious how y'all have those bridge pups set. I'm constantly tweaking mine with a screw driver, a quarter of a turn up/down.

I've played a few a teles where the bridge pup was SO close to the strings...maybe a 1/16" and the tone was amazing, others like the 52 RI at my local shop, the pup is 1/4" down on the bass side and perhaps a hair above that on the treble side...and it sounds nice, twang & clarity.

So, how are they set gang ?

J

For a while I had my Texas Special bridge sunk low to get some good twang and blending w/ the neck pup. I now have it as close to the strings as possible and it sounds great as well. Bright, lots of Shimmer, Mids are nice and Bass is full. Doesn't match w/ the Neck but it's a MONSTER on its own.

Mine are up there as high as I can get them. Maximum twang! Very bright.

I go through phases

First I set them up exactly to spec.

Then depending on how my style works with the pickup, I lower it a little or raise it a little.

I dont like it too close because I haTe bumping it with my fingers.

I don't like it too low, or it isn't bright enough.

Overall, it just depends on the pickup.

I tend to run mine very close to the strings (5/64 to 1/16"), especially on my Teles with neck HBs or P90s. This also seems to punch up the lows and mids, which I like.

I usually set my pickups pretty high. The high E string is within 1~1.5mm with the string fretted at the 21st fret. Then I slant the pickup lower on the bass strings.

Wasn't the traditional downhome method of setting your Tele bridge pickup to set a nickle on the top of the pickup on the treble side and adjust the pickup until the nickel just touched the E string and on the bass side using a nickel and a dime stacked? Or something like that anyway...
