P90 in tele neck position?
Anyone have a P90 in the neck position on their tele? How do they sound paired with a regular tele bridge pickup?
Any good ones to get for under the $80 mark? |

I have a zhangbucker p90 in the neck of my Tele nice meaty sound but still a lot of clarity it was under 80 and custom wound to order but it took about 6 weeks to come but for me the wait was well worth it I am absolutely in love with it

.... mine is paired with a traditional Tele bridge and sounds great,.... however I have a very overwound bridge and a slightly underwound p90 so that they balance... the p90 in a neck can easily overpower a Tele bridge pickup if you don't plan accordingly

I dunno. I've probably posted this one a hundred times here:
![]() I found a P-90 of unknown origin in a pawn shop. Probably out of an Epiphone or something someone swapped out... A neck P-90 will really overpower a stock Tele pickup due to string amplitude at the neck position relative to at the bridge position. You need a powerful bridge pickup to keep up with a P-90. My weapon of choice is a DiMarzio PRE-B1. It's really hot, but doesn't give up that Tele twang. It's been compared sonically to a Fender lap steel pickup, but whatever, it still is a great pairing with a P-90 neck pickup. This guitar will be done as soon as I finish the nut and cut the tortoise pickguard i have to fit the P-90. It's a Rock machine. It would probably make a great slide guitar if I could get my fingers to cooperate. |

I have a GFS P-90 in the neck of my Squier Affinity. It sounds great, but I did have to lower it quite a bit to balance it with the vintage-powered bridge pickup.
I'm not playing at much electric right now and I'm looking for a change, so I'm converting this baby to an Esquire.
