P-90īs noisier than Fender singlecoils?

Hi,

the headline says it all: Are P-90 pickups (original Gibson like in the 56 Les Paul Gold Top) noisier than a normal Fender singlecoil?

And if yes, how much noisier are they? And for the experts: Is a 56 Les Paul Gold Top shielded?

Thanks!!!
Daniel

No, but they tend to have a higher output, so that might make the problem seem worse. But intrinsically I would have thought that the fundamental hum problem is about the same.

That's if you consider single coil hum to be a problem...

Not any noisier. The noise is a little different sounding.

I'd say that they are a little noisier. That's my experience anyway. currently have a Gibson P90 in the neck of my Rice CTS and it tends to be a noisy. Same with some I've had in the past.

I've always had Gibson P-90's with the exception of a set of Fralins. The Fralin version was a bit quieter so maybe it's a Gibson thing.

I'd say noisier because of their wider magnetic field. But it's a beautiful noise!
