PAF... Real or Memorex?

I recently bought a pretty nice 70's Gibson SG-1 and though the guitar is in great condition and plays and sounds really good and even though I didn't need to and probably shouldn't have... I opened it up to look under the hood I found some craziness...
The tone pot is sporting a small transformer... I am not sure what that is doing to my tone... so I need to re-wire it back to original.
My other oddity is the pup... It is sporting an embossed Gibson humbucker. After some research I found that it was most likely from another guitar of the same era. What I found odd was that the bottom of the pup had a Patent Applied for sticker on it and the cover had been re-soldered. I did some more research and convinced myself I might have an older PAF with an incorrect cover. I looked at pics, read stuff online and compared. I am 90% convinced it is a fake, but it is still nagging at me.
I finally took the pup out and discovered the lead was repaired in an ugly manner. I don't know if it is worth fixing or just easier to start over with something like a Duncan Antiquity, or drop in a mini humbucker which is how the guitar came equipped.
I posted some pics.
Although the pick up sounded good I am torn on what to do...
I would love some feedback.

Cover is real

The cover looks like a real Gibson part, they only did the embossed covers for a couple of years
Here's one

The pickup could be a Gibson reissue PAF , or something else, kind of doubt that it is a vintage PAF , but then I'm no expert on humbuckers. There are folks who can tell, you'll need more detailed pics of the humbucker itself.
Here is some info on real PAFs and Pat # pickups
http://www.guitarpartsvintage.com/ta...uitar-pickups/

If it sounded good and you like it, why fool with it?
You can probably get some $$ for the cover, they are kind of rare. Then get another cover and put on the pickup and use it , or sell all the parts and get something else.

Without seeing a pic of your SG, or knowing which model and year, the cover may be original to the guitar. If it is then I'd keep it. Without a hands on view, hard to say what your pickup is from those pics.

I am leaning towards the burst bucker... The label is definitely not vintage, but looking at your pic of the burst bucker much closer to that.
This site had a ton of info:
http://home.provide.net/~cfh/paf.html
I am sure that it is not vintage as I am missing the one detail that seems to be on all PAFs... The "L" shaped tooling marks...
I notice the second pic you provided looks like they are also without the tooling marks, and the PAF label looks quite a bit like that.

Here is a link with a picture of the guitar... it is a '73 Gibson SG-1. The guitar came equipped with a mini humbucker. This pup is not the original.

I took a quick resistance reading and got 8.4 ohms. I am going to solder up the cover and re-use it...
I am wondering if the lead can be repaired. The braid that was added is pretty ugly... It does look solid electrically as I got the same reading on the old lead and the newer piece.

re lead

If it works and it doesn't show, leave it alone, you might mess it up trying to replace the braided lead if you don't know what you're doing.
Again, if it was me, I'd sell the cover and get a plain cover for the pickup IF you like the way it sounds.

The pickup looks to be a reissue PAF ( '80's) with an older stamped cover on it ('70's).
It may be a composite of parts...If it sounds good use it..
