TV Jones Classic Humbucker in the neck of a Tele

Hello all--

I have a Warmoth project tele that I've been playing for the past 10 years. At about year two, I converted it from a single pickup instrument to a dual pickup instrument by putting a TV Jones classic in the neck position. I had a friend of mine install it and I don't think he followed a diagram. I've played the guitar for years now and have loved it for the most part but I'm still not sold on the sound of the neck pickup--its too dark...sort of muddy.

I decided to open up the control route and take a look and it would appear the wiring is a total improve by my old friend. I've been looking for a diagram to do a rewire. I came accross this diagram and it seems to be the most applicable to my pickups.

I realize a majority of the problem is the pots--they are 250k. If I'm going to rewire it though, I want to do it right.

Any suggestions before I warm up the solder?

Your neck p/u tone would slightly benefit from 500k pots but if you have a single coil in the bridge, the damage from such mod will also be pretty noticeable.
Unless there's some serious mistake in the way your Tele is wired now, I really doubt you're going to achieve much with a different diagram... I used to have at least two Teles which just didn't sound right with a humbucker in the neck position. You might want to try some strat p/up there, or maybe a Barden Two-tone humbucker, they're never too muddy or boomy....

That diagram should work. My Cali Fat Tele uses a .022 cap (which the Classic will like) a 500K volume and a 250K tone pot. This seems like a good sounding compromise to me. The Classic is not a muddy pup. I have 2 in a Gretsch Electromatic and they are very clear sounding.
