Humbucker and P90 help

I'm pretty new at winding pickups and I'm new to the forum, so if I'm asking questions that have already been asked I apologize.

As for humbuckers, I was told by a friend of mine that the reason a HB "bucks" the hum is because the polarity of the magnets in both of the HB singles were opposite. I was under the assumption that the reason for "buck" was because the two singles were opposite polarity or reverse wound.

In a humbucker, does the polarity of the magnets matter from one single to the other? And does switching the polarity of one of two singles have the same effect as winding one of the singles backward of the other?

The other concern I have, where do I solder the leads on a P90 and a HB? Most of the pickups I've wound so far have been more fender style and have had the small eyelets for the leads. When I ordered all the parts for p90's and HB's there is no obvious place to connect the leads.

I've tried to do some searching on the forum and didn't quite find the answers I've been looking for. If someone could direct me I'd appreciate it.

I apologize for my newbie ignorance!!

I don't know much about winding pickups myself. I am just starting out. I am actually building a winding jig at the moment. One thing I have notice though it that if you take 2 lets say Strat pickups and set them up like P-bass pickups (i.e. wiring them together you still get the hum cancellation. I just started doing this to an old 3 pickup guitar I have (single, single, humbucker config). I left the two single coils in the neck and mid position and just used a P-bass pickup wiring config to put them together. I noticed that it does not hum from the two cheap single coils anymore. As far as polarity of the magnets and where to connect the leads on a P-90 or HB I don't know. I've seen HB's so many different ways though. Some have been like Strat with the two eyelets, some have been under the tape so I think it's a matter of preference for the maker.
I don't know if any of this answers your question, but I figured I would give my observation.
