Putting a cover on a GFS lil' puncher?

Title says it all. I actually like the lil' puncher neck pup but don't care for the looks and am considering putting a traditional cover on it. Will it change the tone? I imagine it will, but wondering if anyone has tried it and what their experience was. Thanks.

I thought about it and decided I liked how it looked in a black single-ply pickguard, so I left it alone.

The only thing that i don't like with mine is that the 1st string sometimes gets caught under the edge of the pickup. I'm thinking of putting a black plastic strat-pickup-cover onto it. Maybe i will cut out two slots for the rails.
I'll keep you posted.

Agreed it looks decent against a black guard, but this is for a tele project without a guard which has a chrome humbucker in the bridge so I want a matching chrome cover for the neck.

I've got mine backed down a bit so I've never had that problem. However, for the project I'm working on I may need to run it up on the strings to balance with a humbucking bridge pup...
