OC Duff pickups !...Amazing tone...

Owen Duff hand winds some sweet pups !

www.ocduffpickups.com

I just received a set of his flat pole alnico V tele pups, wound to around 7k per Owen. These are nicely constructed, quality materials and very neat work.

Owen and I had several emails discussing what I was looking for (after pulling my Texas Tele Specials). I told him I loved Redd Volkaert's sweet neck tone, in between quack I hear on "Live at Bill Bob's" and Brad Paisley's bridge growl like on "Spaghetti Western Swing", "Make a Mistake" and "Mud on the Tires". OC knew both players and their tones and said he'd wind me a nice hotter vintage set with a touch of modern punch. And that's what I got. The neck is SO sweet, very responsive to the tone knob...jazzy, bluesy and clarity with depth (yes it has the chrome cover). The bridge, punchy, piano chime on the wound strings with the top end present and a touch of bite. Finally, some TWANG on the bridge - something my Texas Special really lacked. It plays clean and open or growls when picked hard. I'm still finding the sweet spot on the bridge, but these are killer pups and nicely balanced to one another.

After finding Brian at Indyguitarist.com for a neat pedal mod and now Owen I feel the "small" custom gear guys are real "gems" ...quality products with attention to YOUR sound in their work.

Twang on,

John

John, I'm ordering a similar set this week from Owen. Funny to, I also used Redd as a tone reference. Did you find the sweet spot with the bridge p-up yet? 8)

Right now...yes, two nickels on the bass side, one nickel on the treble side...THEN one half turn of the screws down. With my Blues Jr. running at the edge of overdrive I can get into that "Paisley zone"...

I'm thrilled with these pups.

I got the same great results from OC too. He made the pickups just like I wanted and they sounded just like I expected. Got my pickups 1 week after I sent the $$ very happy!!
