MIM Pickup Questions?

Hello all... I just picked up a new 2008 MIM tele to add to my lefty collection.

The guitar (surprisingly to me) has a pretty good twang to it with the stock bridge pickup. I'm getting a DC resistance of 10.12

My question/questions are... does Fender use a cheaper pickup for their MIM models? Is the pickup in this guitar the same as in a "American Standard Telecaster"?

Never one to be satisfied I'm thinking about upgrading if I can get "more" twang out of this guitar.

Please correct me if I'm wrong... with a resistance of 10.12 the stock pickup is a little on the "hot" side. If I want a twangier or more vintage sound I should be looking for a lower output pickup. Something around a 6 to 8 DC resistance?

Thanks

I don't know much about pickups but I do know that trying to determine a pickups sound by DC resistance is worthless. If you intend to replace the pickups, call or email someone like Don Mare or Owen Duffy. They will gladly alter a model of theirs to suit the sound you want.

They are not the same as Am Standard for sure.

What you need to do is some research and listening and determine what YOU LIKE.

MIM pups are naturally made as economically as possible and you do get what you pay for, but you are right, they aren't too bad !

Cost aside, I've seen MIM Neck and Bridge sets go on ebay used for anywhere from 30-40 bucks.

For 64 bucks you can buy a BRAND new set of Keystones and I can tell you there is NO COMPARISON !!

Tonerider makes VERY good and great sounding pickups, and they are very reasonably price too.

There are some vendors that get well over 100 for a set. That doesn't make them "better", just different. Are they worth all the extra money? I say, ask they guy who bought them.

Take your time, there are a LOT to choose from, and million times that in opinions on what is the ticket.

You have a GREAT platform (MIM Tele) to work with there and you will get some good info here to help you make a choice.
