bridge pickups...

The bridge pickup in my tele i have now is much to twangy/bright for my taste. Im looking for a more bluesy, fat sound much like the sound in Thrice's more recent albums: Beggars/ The Alch. Index. So pickup suggestions? I do not want to stray from single coils by the way. Thanks!

I like my DiMarzio Pre B-1 $49.95!

http://accessories.musiciansfriend.c...up-?sku=302466

From the DiMarzio website:
"There are two kinds of Tele® players: country pickers for whom twang is king (we don’t make Twang King™ pickups for nothing, right?), and players of blues and rock who need less high end snap and more low-end muscle. We’re not talking imitation humbucker-sound here. The Pre B-1™ maintains a lot of the basic character of the Tele® bridge position, but the sound is bigger. It can still cut through a mix, but it will fill more space, as well. It also has about 25% more power than a stock Tele® bridge pickup. That means thicker overdrive and more sustain from your favorite tube amp."

Lollar Special T is a great R&R/Blues pickup. It can do Zep I to Roy B. If you roll the tone back, you can even get a Gibson hum or P90 fatness. I have been through about every pickup and the Lollar was hands down the most versatile for every genre of music.

If you really want the sound you describe I suggest you look up Mick Brierley's handwound pickups here in Australia (see Carlton guitars adv. on the TDPRI homepage). He even has a return policy if you're not happy. He will make you exactly what you want ,sound, resistance, specific wire, magnets etc.within a couple of weeks. Everyone here in Aus. who has used them says they're great, for around $70 AUD .
Cheers! Tonetele, South Australia.

Two Q's.
1. Without being technical, could you just say, "I want it to sound like Redd/ BP/ Pete Anderson", it's for x guitar, and let him have at it? ie let Mr Brierley choose the magnet type, wire, etc? I want something between the 48 and 60's in the Kinman. A very country/ Western swing sound but not ice-picky. More slinky and bouncy on the lower strings.
2. Does he do unwinds/ rewinds? I've got Tex Mex pups I hate, but they might sound OK if they were a bit cooler, then I could drop them in another guitar.

Cheers.

I would play with your pickup height first . You might like the pickups you have by lowering the pickups a bit.

Ill definatly try to work with it, the pickup just really doesnt seem to have much bass/mids pushing.

Tonetele: As noodler was asking, could i just tell him this is exactly what i want and him replicate that for me?

The Duncan Broadcaster is a pretty versatile choice, plenty of guts for R&R and Blues.

If you haven't tried this yet, try rolling back your tone control on the guitar about 30% +/-. Also try rolling back your volume on the guitar and turning up your amp. Both of these should give you a gutsier sound.

i have looked into the broadcaster and nocaster pickups some, they do seem right up my ally. If i dont go custom wound then i will probably go that way. And yeah ive worked with all eq. /volume options and i just cant get the sound i want. Just not enough beef there for me.

+1 on the Broadcaster. Great for R&R, very meaty and delicious.

I've been playing some Specials by Roadhouse pickups for about a month now, (when i get the time, lol) and the bridge is really nice, no shrill sounds at all and it is very usable.

I'm trying to get a clip of it up. I see on the makers site there are some nice clips.
