Good bridge match with mini hum?

I bought one of those special run butterscotch ash tele's with the intent of modding it into a Hot Rod type. I bought a Seymour Duncan Sm-1 mini hum, 1 ply bakelight guard, 375k pots, paper/oil etc.... I had a black label Bill Lawrence (The other guy) bridge pickup and I didnt like the blend I got in the middle position or stand alone. I put the original "Vintage Noiseless" in and switch the wires around from a bad hum. Anyway, my point it.......Whats a good bridge pickup that is fairly hot and blends well in the middle position with a mini hum?

What's wrong with the vintage noiseless pickup? That should be a good combo. You could always try another SD pickup.

At first there was a polarity issue I think. I reversed the wires and got rid of most of the hum. Once the bad ground was cleaned up it sounded pretty sterile. Was wondering what people were using with mini hums.

Thanks for the reply

I removed my bridge pickup entirely and just play the mini hum.

You could always try a hot single coil pup for the bridge. That would give you a different sound on the treble end.

I ran into the same thing using a Duncan Phat Cat (HB sized P-90) in the neck of a Tele, it was much louder than a typical Tele neck pkp.

I ended up with a Harmonic Design S-90 in the bridge to even things out and I love the combo now, they've been happily shackin' for several years now.
The S-90 is a real good compromise because it still sounds like a SC (it is), but it's a very meaty and bold sounding Tele bridge, which helps equalize the difference.

Having said that, I also have two Lollar Mini-hums in 2 other Teles, and they are FAR more 'similar' in tone to a SC than the Phat Cat, the P-Cat damn near sounds like a full-out HB, the Lollars sound like a good Mini should, somewhere right in the middle of a HB and a SC, so the actual real Mini-hums I have play perfectly with almost any SC I want to use in the bridge, I have one of them paired with an old underwound Fralin Tele bridge and they sound fine together.

Maybe your Duncan is more like my PC90...

+1 First thought when I read this topic. Closest to what Fender uses in the Hot Rod Tele.

Tele with mini neck bucker should go like the clappers.

Leave the bridge pickup alone, re-wire it as standard, set its height right for tele twang. Wire the mini coils in series and get it in phase with the bridge, don't coil-tap or worry about hum-cancelling with the bridge pickup (bring all 4 wires and its ground out to the control cavity, that way you can swap the coils about if there's bad hum etc). Adjust mini height/poles for sound and with the bridge pickup. Fit a 4-way switch for everything in series, note - the bridge pickup has the cold/ground connection. Use a 500k volume pot, humbuckers like them best. Tune up and give it a good spanking.

Di Marzio Chopper T or Fastrack T work great with Mini Humbuckers
