Calling all experts! Any ideas on what this Pickup is?

So I generally hate the idea of humbuckers anywhere near the bridge of my Teles but I just found this in a parts drawer. I have no idea what it is or where it came from but I'm thinking about dropping it in something and finding out............

Any ideas what it might be?? .............Besides dirty!
thanks.[

That might be a very old Bill Lawrence pickup. I remember seeing something very similar to that in the early 80's in a friends Strat. Sounded great.

In the late 80s/early 90s, I put some rail-type pups that were made by a company called KMD in the bridge position of my strats and found them to be much twangier and less brutish than the SD hot rails. I've never seen one for a tele, but maybe that's what it is.

I also found later on (man, the pre-boutique pickup era was a dark, dark (no pun intended) time) that wiring the SD rails pup in parallel was a way dramatic improvement over series.

Email a picture to Clint at Searcy String Works in Nashville. I bet he could help you out.

I would also say a Bill Lawrence. The gray colored lead wire looks like Lawrence.

The reason why I doubt this is a Bill Lawrence original is the blobby soldering. It could be a Wajzman clone, or an ESP stock pickup. The SD Hotrails have round bobbin ends. If it's no ESP, it might be a Rockinger Blade Screamer. Still, given the soldering, my guess tends towards an older, possibly Asian make.

If you find the time, simply install it and give it a go, it's the only way to find out what it's like. :-)

Cheers,

Moggl
