H/S + 5-way dia.?
Hi guys. I need a wiring diagram for a Tele with a humbucker in the neck position, standard single coil in the bridge, with a standard 5-way switch-not the 5-way megaswitch that guitarelectronics illustrates. I want to coil tap the humbucker with this setup, if possible. Thanks.

Fender has a diagram for the fat tele which might help. Follow the link and scroll down.

If you want to use the 'strat' type 5 way switch, then you'll have to live with some compromises. i.e. non-intuitive switch positions or miss out on some combinations. e.g.:
Option 1: 1. HB 2. HB + single 3. single 4. single + HB tap 5. HB tap Options 2: 1. single 2. single + HB 3. HB 4. HB tap 5. HB tap (again!) There are other combinations, I'm sure. |

I'll post a diagram later tonight (Sydney time). With option 1, you'll just have to get used to the middle position being the neck single coil.
EDIT: oops, your OP says neck HB, apologies. This means: 1. neck HB tap 2. bridge + neck HB tap 3. bridge 4. bridge + neck HB (parallel) 5. neck HB (ie. positions 3, 4 & 5 are like your normal 3 way)

THANKS!
Thanks for the diagram cc...it's much appreciated. One question though...and yes, it's a newbie question...tapped? Does that mean split HB? Appreciate any replies...

EDIT: if you don't get "humbucking" for bridge + split, then you will need a different diagram (i.e. you need the other coil in the HB to be in parallel with the bridge). Let me know and I'll see what I can do. |

cc-I had already gone ahead and wired it up before I saw your post, and I wasn't satisfied with it at all. I just re-wired it according to your diagram and I like it much better. Thanks so much for your effort! Works flawlessly!

9 sounds out of H-S pickups
As i'm thinking about replacing the neck pickup of my CV with a SD P-Rails, i've drawn the wiring diagram below.
Using a standard strat 5-way switch and a push-pull pot, you get 9 combos out of 3 coils. It should work also with a normal humbucker, in fact any 3-coil guitar as well, either SH, HS or SSS. Depending on the location of these coils, some positions might not offer a very different sound (each coil of a well balanced HB will sound about the same at the neck position). What do you think of it ? (Or should i post a new thread, here or in Tele-Tech ?) |
