a gibson Q: rhyme and/or reason to les paul pickups?
i've noticed that different les pauls have different variations of humbuckers: burstbucker, 490/498, classic '57, etc.
is there a method to this? thanks for input. eljayski |

yes....very important
Burstbuckers give you a PAF sound, vintage with a little more bite (kinda trebely) 57 classics are low output, 100percent vintage voiced pickups. The 490/498 is a great combo, its a moderate output vint/modern combo because of the extra mids they push....great sounding under rated pickups. 496r/500t this is very high output set, if you do rock these things will be your friend, very nice as well.

compared to the rest of the bunch they are fairly low output....I prefer them over the burst bucks.
this might help you out, Its hard to find because Gibsons site is not easy to navigate lol http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Division...ade%20%281%29/

My 1996 studio has the 490/498 combo. They sound unbelievable with a bit of dirt behind them, but close to impossible to get a nice clean. They deliver almost no highs so this needs to be compensated for on the amp. My favs for OD.
