Humbucker sized p90's

Hello everyone,

Been looking to replace a bridge humbucker with a p90.

I've seen guitar fetish and kent armstrong (i don't know what to make of those)
The seymour duncan phat cat does seem the most interesting to me
But are there other brands that offer a humbucker sized p90 and that i should consider?

Regards, Bart

I've got the Duncan in one of my guitars. It seemed a little dark with a 250k volume pot but sounds good to me with a 500k. Something to think about if you're going to use it with strat or tele pups. Matching it up with your string spacing may be something else to look at. My guitar already had a HB spaced bridge. Gibson also makes one, but the reviews I've read are mixed. Check out Harmony Central.

I have a pair of Phat Cats in a Gretsch 5120 and I'm really fond of them. I use them with flat wound strings though so YMMV.

Thanks for the advice Cousinpaul,

Just checked and the vol.pot seems to bee 500K.
I won't be having worries about matching pickups an such because the guitar only has a bridge pickup, (currently duncan sh4), just looking for a more sparkling tone that i like from a single coil, but a little more balsy and fatter.

In what guitar do you have it? And how would you describe it soundwise? Does it match the description on the s-d website?

GFS Mean 90 and Tonerider Rebel 90s are my favorite. Mean 90 for thicker guitars and Rebel 90 for thinner.

Pete Biltoft of Vintage Vibe Guitars makes all kinds of nice sounding humbucker sized P-90s.

I have the Tonerider Rebel 90 in the bridge of an SG type guitar, and the Lollar Single Coil For humbucker in an Ibanez AS200 semi.

It's a bit difficult to make a direct comparison in such different guitars, but the Lollar seems to me to be ballsier and to have quite a bit more dynamic response. Responds very well to pick attack, and also to tweaks of the volume and tone controls. Rolling back the volume a tad yields a cleaner and clearer tone. It's an excellent pickup.

The Tonerider is pretty good too, and a lot cheaper, but the Lollar would be my pick.

+1 on Pete at vintage vibe. I have a pair of his hb size p90's and am very happy with them. The ability to switch the magnets is a big plus! Lots of fun,. Bil

Duncan Phat Cats are great. Plus you can switch out the magnets to dial in the tone you want. It's a great feature and not that hard to do.

I believe you can do the same with the Pete Biltofts/Vintage Vibe versions as well.
