Keystones

I am looking to buy some replacement pickups for my SX STL, and I have seen so many good reviews for Keystones here, I really want to try them. Here is my question: is now a bad time to buy Keystones, with all the changes going on with the company and everything? Or is it the perfect time to buy them, before they start making them in the Lace factory? Or should I wait? I don't know what to do

Well I just ordered a KT Standard set. I guess no one really knows what is going to happen as far as the quality getting better or worse, or the price increasing or whatever else.

I honestly never heard of Bill Lawrence until I got on this forum, which was just a few weeks ago. Based on what I have read about him, he seems like a great guy. If nothing else, I am happy to support a family operation like theirs rather than some big corporation any day.

Now I wonder if they are getting swamped with orders before they start production at the Lace facility.

Same thing here - ordered a set for my tele about three weeks ago, then read here what was going on. Lots of question marks at this point.

Has anyone heard anything at all about how Mr. Lawrence is doing, what's going on with the company, etc?

Latest on Bill can be found in this thread.

As I understand it, the move to the Lace factory meant that Bill and Becky were relieved of the day-to-day grind of running the business but still very much involved in a technical advisory/supervisory roll. As much of the machinery that was in Bill's previous factory (and staff as well I think, but I'm not certain) was moving too, the production process should be much the same.

I would still class it as early days, moving a factory must be a very stressful process. We'll just have to be patient. They haven't forgotten about us, they've just got a lot going on at the moment.

Correction: I received the pickups on 10/22. I finally got them installed today. They were well worth the wait.

Look at it this way...they will NEVER arrive if you don't order them! Drop the dime and don't be impatient. Good things come to those that wait!

It took me almost 8 weeks to receive my Strat pickups (just got them last week). But today I ordered two sets of Tele Keystones. They're just that good. Will be worth the wait.

I like the way this guy thinks!

Yeah, I held off on ordering this last batch a while, to let the rush of customers have a taste. Some for the first time.

I ordered again the other day by mail, and sent a check. I know Becky will get to it when she can. Now that Bill is out of the hospital, if she wants to hang out with him, that's cool too!

I agree! The longer you wait to order, the longer it will take until you have them. Mine came individually wrapped in a paper towel in a zip lock bag. Made in the USA stickers on the back.

Don't delay, order today!

Just order asap! You'll sell them fast if you don't like them.

Ordered mine on Oct. 21 and am still waiting. Glad to hear yours came through so fast. I know they're worth the wait, I'm just hoping the partnership with Lace will mean more formal order tracking.

Over two weeks now and still waiting for my Keystones.

These are the only Keystones I've been enjoying lately.

I think that this is actually the same beer as Coors light, with a different can.

Hey - Just got mine the other day. I checked my order on PayPal, and I ordered on the 17th of October. They shipped Nov 5th, so that isn't so bad. I was worried production and shipping may be on hold while Bill recovers, but evidently not.

The shipping label even was hand written from "Bill and Becky Lawrence". Nice touch. Evidently, my set didn't ship from Lace. I'm putting them in my Thinline this weekend.

Oh, and packed in bubble wrap baggies and newspaper (actually, NAMM paper).

That's encouraging. I put my order in on Oct. 27. So maybe I'll be getting them within the next 2 weeks.

I'm looking forward to trying them. The neck pickup in my SX actually sounds pretty decent to me but I don't like the bridge. With the tone knob wide open its just way to bright, and turning the tone down just kind of makes it sound kind of dull and muffled.

And I got brand new pots and a 4 way switch just sitting here doing nothing. Come on Keystones....

I hope by now everybody has read this thread and realizes there is no need to worry.

thanks for sharing but it would be more useful to post your experiences after you've received them and a had a chance to enjoy them

Hey just wanted to let you all know I got my Keystones today, I ordered on Oct. 27 so thats just under three weeks.

I just opened the box a few minutes ago, so I have not installed them yet. I will post again when I get them installed. I like the little made in USA sticker they put on there. These are probably going to be the only thing on my SX that is made in USA.

I ordered mine on the 8th of Oct and just got them today. It was worth the wait. I put Keystone's, CTS pots and a Bumble Bee 0.033uf 650v cap in there and my Tele sounds Beautiful.

If you want great pickups Keystone's are the way to go.

I just put my keystones in my ash stl a few days ago. The bridge pickup needed a bit more room to fit but a few minutes with a file and all was well. Man, these things sing.

Now if they'd only get my L609 (or whatever part number it is, it's a noiseless tele bridge pickup) repaired and sent back. It's been gone two months, though I know Bill's been under the weather. Once that baby is done, I can install it in the 72 Custom partscaster I'm making for my wife.

Wow, beautiful tele. Something to be proud of.

Hey, where did you buy the CTS pots? What values did you use? And are the caps you mentioned a "hot ticket" kind of thing? I hadn't heard of them before. Not to send this thread sideways, but I'd like to know why you chose those items, and how you feel they enhanced the tone of your Keystones.
