DeArmond Gold Tone help
I can't for the life of me find any info on these pickups anywhere. What they are mode out of, wire gauge, magnet material, or even pictures of one broken apart. I'm hoping with all the pickup gurus on this site, someone has had the opportunity to take some pictures and make some notes.
I really don't want to pull apart my newly acquired 63 Rocket. But in my searched I did come accross some cool pics of the p-13 that seem to be highly sought after. http://www.kilback.net/p13smooth/ |

I have a spare set of these, but have little tech knowledge on the guts of a p/u. Can you open one up without destroying it? If so, maybe I could get a pic. In the meantime, head on over to letstalkguild.com. Many of those folks have Dearmonds. I bet someone there knows what you want to know. MD |

i've got a set of those goldtones in my old 60's bobkat. they sound incredible in that trashy old hunk of wood. i can't help but wonder how they'd sound in both positions of a custom build tele . . .

The guy who runs my favorite jam has one in the neck of his custom built tele...probably one of my top 3 favorite Tele tones. It has the ability to be somewhat boomy or straight out smooth, great low end with some serious growl. Clean it's pretty jazzy and yet you still know it's a tele. I want to do the same but I kinda don't want to be a mimic...plus you really need a bridge pickup wound to match it. And I do like the really bell-like sounds I get from my current set up(stock Fender p/u's)

I don't know which model DeArmond he listed here, but Steve Kersting's page has some specs on old pickups.

Little Late to the Thread
I have a Custom Telecaster that came stock with a Gold Tone in the neck position (and a Vintage Noiseless at the bridge). The pickup has a wonderful sound as both a full humbucker and when split. I've been considering picking up one of the Korean DeArmond guitars just so I can try them out as a set. I keep hoping that Fender will release a special telecaster with two of these pickups or else I might try to find some on Ebay and build my own.
