I did this too
& I found ( sadly) it does not react like two strats will, meaning the _Quack_.. may not actually.. sound like Quack at all. sorta surprized me .. and did not impress me .... sorry for any bad news .. cause it does look cool!! |

Look cool? Sure would. But like Don Mare said, it might not nail the right tone you're expecting in the middle positions.

I've actually been toying with the idea of combining a Tele neck pup with a Strat pup in the space of a humbucker. It might be an interesting twist in the place of one of your Jones pickups - possibly the neck one.
...The unbalanced coils and different tonal characteristics could be very interesting when wired in either series or parallel with one another, but it would help to have the pair be RW/RP. And with a 5 way switch, you could actually "tap" one of the coils out, as well! Getting those two pickups to fit in a PAF-like space would no doubt be tight and a little challenging, but I think that the tones would be potentially much more rewarding. Just my crazy off-the-wall suggestion, FWIW.

11 gauge, that sounds like a very interesting idea. Who ever said the coils had to match when wired in series? Chances are if the impedance is mismatched, they may not be dead quiet in series. Let us know when you attempt this. As for "quack", I'm pretty much over that. I do find having a center PUP (like the Lawrence 280 in my Super Tele {TV Jones Classic in the neck; DiMarzio Chopper in the bridge}), gives me another "color" when used by itself. Mixed with either neck or bridge yields a somewhat "muddy" and lackluster tone.
