In appreciation of brass (Don Mare content)
So I know I'm not alone here, but I love the sound of the brass covered neck pickup, yet I don't hear much praise of them. I have the Don Mare DonOcaster set in a CIJ 50s Bigsby Tele, and Hot Bakelite set in a Nash T-69 Thinline relic. Although the Hot Bakelites are amazing, versatile, and more perfect for my applications, I think I prefer the sound of the brass covered neck pickup in the DonO set. It is so rich and unique. Dark without any muffle, harmonically intricate, and tonally farther away from the neck pickup than the Bakelite set, which gives the CIJ a wider tonal sweep without using the tone control. For fat, honking blues tones this pickup is tops. It sounds almost like a nasty hollowbody guitar when set edgy! Lovers of brass chime in, Don Mare or otherwise.

I can see why they are your faves....love the Hot Bakelite neck as well, seems to like bein set a little farther from the strings though, but that Alnico III brass neck has such an amazing, unique, distinctive tone that I love. Nobody else likes brass?

That on all the 50 to 53's necks that came in here from repair/rewinds, way back when I actually took in rewinds/repairs ( I don't anymore) they were all Alnico III's and had heavy brass covers.. also: Buchanans 53'Nancy Tele is Al-3-Brass |

Well apparently no one told me and Don that these amazing brass covered neck pickups are a secret! We've ruined it, now everyone will want them!! Kidding aside, I am ok with bein in the minority, but I know there has to be more than two brass users on this forum! (3 if you count the guy with the SW set who responded to the other D Mare thread)
