Back To The Future
I would like to get some recommendations on pick-ups that will help me develop my own sound. As much as I love the classic tones I don't want to copy them exactly. I want something similar, but not a reproduction. I'm playing a 2007 Fender American Series Telecaster, through a ninetys-something Ampeg Jet II Md. J-12T amp.

If you could catch Peter Florance of VooDoo PU's on the phone you would get an encyclopedic chronology of what is what. But he is tough to catch. Ron Kirn is easier to be in touch with - he is a realist when it comes to PU's - not fooled by marketing and hype. He might steer you to bill Lawrence.

Didja ever notice.. Whenever a great guitarist, one that is known for their sound, plays a guitar that is not the one he is known for, it still has HIS sound… It’s not because they have some other guitar setup to produce the same sound as their #1, it’s because of their skill. So to develop you “own” sound, practice and play every day, like tomorrow you gotta play for your life. The sound will happen… Oh…. And practice does not mean playing your favorite songs over and over… that’s rehearsal… it is not the same thing. Ron Kirn
