double-post from tech-talk; series wiring w/3-way pup selector?

Howdy, all, newbie here, and sorry for the redundancy across forums. I've spent the last three days burning my eyes out staring at every diagram/schematic I could find via google, to no avail. Of course, it could be the brain's just not parsing as it should. My big question is this: is it possible to wire some sort of switch (p-p, mini toggle, whatever) along with a three-way toggle to give me a series option in the middle position?

Here's the longwinded breakdown: I've got an Electra/Raven tele from the '70's, it's got two covered pups (they don't feel like brass or chrome, more like silver plastic), and a control plate that has, from neck to bridge, a 3-way toggle, volume, tone & output jack. I actually really like this arrangement, and would prefer not to replace it, as that'll necessitate drilling into the body (which is mahogany). I really like the acoustic tone of the guitar, even with it's top-load crappy steel bridge- it's just clearer, yet fuller, and deeper than any of my other guitars...plugged in, it's quite the opposite, and until I can swing an L48/45 set, I'm hoping to snag a PreB1 & TwangKing to drop in. Saddles will eventually go to Callaham steels, as I feel like brass'll muddy the mahogany too much. And while I'm a big fan of strings-thru guitars, the sustain and ring suit me just fine right now, so I'll probably NOT be replacing the (strangely shaped) bridge.

The wiring I would LIKE to work out would be to keep the 3-way toggle, but have some switch set up to give me the serial option. The tone will be a p-p with a .015 and .047, the volume, probably the p-p for this mod, if it's possible. In a dream world, I'd also have a 'solo' mini toggle to give me the feed straight from the 3-way, no volume or tone.

I'm also thinking about adding an old Dearmond I have from a Harmony Rebel, just behind/touching the neck pu, wired to a push-button phase switch going to a thumbwheel volume then to the jack, running parallel with whatever's on the 3-way/'solo'. The Dearmond looks like it'll fit just right without having to remove any wood, just some plastic.

That's still a ways off, and my main priority is just sorting out whether any kind of series option exists with the use of a 3-way toggle selector.

Sorry for the atrociously long first post, and thanks for your time!

-Alan

Not sure how to do it, but I know it can be done... Chris Rice has a series position with a 3-way switch on his incredible #125 Esquire (would sure love to see the wiring diagram on this one!):

And welcome to the TDPRI!

Thank you, Nub! Been scouring the pages via google for some days now, and it feels like a good place to be :)

I accidentally double-posted between tech-talk & just pickups, and in my response to Deaf Eddie's information over there, I posted some quick drawings that I *think* might work...any additional feedback is, of course, tremendously appreciated.

Thanks again for the welcome, and I hope to be around for a good long while! Maybe one of these days breaking the bank for one of the Alumisonic tele knock-offs, too...hope that doesn't constitute heresy, but their different take on tone (versus, say, Trussart) and the 'endorsement' of Henry Kaiser speaks to me...and if I ever get a shop set up, I plan on having a go at making my own pine 'esquire', akin to Arlo's...I managed to fight the Tele bug off for 16 years of my life, and now it's getting me back :)

Rock over, London! Rock on, Chicago..

neck, series, bridge is straight-forward if you have a normal fender 3 way lever swtich, there was a thread on that not so long ago (with diagrams)

it is also possible with LP style toggle (but only those switches that have extra pole, usually for 3 pickup guitars)

Roger that. I'm hoping to avoid a lever switch, as that'll require replacing the control plate and either having a new one made with the 3 holes needed or drilling out some wood to move the jack location. I'll do what I've gotta do to get the sounds, as they come before looks & ergonomics, of course.

Thanks for the suggestion about the 3-pup LP style switches. It hadn't occurred to me, but sounds like it'll probably be exactly what I'm looking for.

Thanks!
