pickup quandary....

So, I'm building another double-bound for myself (I decided on black, BTW, and am well into the clear coats, now).

My original idea was to build an almost-dead-nuts copy of the one I had before. Very few differences: two-piece poplar body this time (rather than one-piece), potted Seth Lover (rather than unpotted).

I'd used a Duncan '54 with threaded saddles before, and that's what I was gonna do. In fact, I bought a '54 from Darrell the other day.

However, this morning, I clicked "Buy it Now" on a Fralin Blues Special that Danocaster had on eBay.

Now I don't know what to do....

I'm thinking that the Fralin may balance better with the neck humbucker (he said that this one is marked 9.8K, which seems a bit high to me), and may be less ice-picky with the steel saddles.

Still, I have another tele with an ash body and a B'caster, so brighter on this one may not be that bad....

I know what to expect, of course, from the '54, but what should I expect from the Fralin? And what would you guys do?

I know that the best way to decide is to try them both, but I just wanted some feedback from people who've used both pups....

Kevin

I was heading to the post office at lunch with your pickup. If you have a change of heart let me know. Contact me at work at dandrews@smausa.com.

Oh, no, Darrell. I want it. I emailed you....

I'm just trying to decide which to use -- not bemoaning the fact that I bought two....

Darrel

That's just another excuse for Kevin to build another guitar...I have this spare pickup that needs a guitar built around it.

I do stuff like that all of the time. Really gets the wife wound up, too! "Are you buying more stuff again? What for this time? Don't you already have one of those?"

One of these days I gotta tell her about all of those parts I bought for the engine I'm building for a car I don't even have yet!

Wish I could help you out with the pickup dilemma, Kevin!

It's a luxury to be sure to be able to try both and see which one you like better! I've been playing with my new Fralins for a week and I'm pretty happy with them, but without trying all the others you can never know! (just an excuse for me to order a few more) 8)
