original 57 re-issue strat pickups ?
I have a 1983 sunburst 57 re-issue. I was wondering what was the universal opinion of these pickups. I have found them to be authentic sounding but not very strong.I was thinking of replacing with fat 50's or fralin blues specials. Should i make this move or stay put?

I don't believe I've heard those pickups, so I can't give you my opinion of what I think, but it's certainly an easy switch back if you don't care for the new ones.

I'll tell you what I'd do.
I'd keep your current pickguard set-up exactly stock, pups, switch, pots and all. Just de-solder the ground wires and remove.
Then, regardless up the pups that you decide to try, get a completely and entirely new pickguard setup. This way you can easily retain the integrity of your stock set up, and more easily A/B with the new set up. It my cost a few dollars more, but not that much more. For Strats, I'm partial to Duncan Antiquities myself. |

Fralins will transform it into a completly different guitar.
I had a Relic Strat custom shop that stayed in the case for about 2 years I maybe played it 3 times in 2 years sold another Strat I had so I removed the Fralins put those into the Relic and it sounded awesome. It sounded so much better my friend wouldnt stop bugging me to sell it to him so I did. |

I'm not sure...
but I would imagine Fender put 57/62's in it.
The 57/62's are my personal favorite Fender issue pickups. They are not quite as hot as say the Texas specials, but they have a great tone. I have them in a couple of guitars. |

I think those Fralin Vintage Hots are awesome. You might want to check out the Suhr Low Peak pu's as well. I've played a couple of Strats with those pickups and they just rule i.m.h.o. They lack some of the clarity of the Fralin VH's but you'll get some usefull tasty beefieness in return.

I'm pretty sure the 57- 62 was made much later. As i said these pickups are authentic sounding although weak and somewhat tinny(although both can be compensated with amp settings) I think i'll give the Fralin's a shot though i'm still torn between the Hots and blues specials
