More Growl for my Peavey?

I recently picked up a '94 Reactor, and I love it. The neck is a little more modern than I was looking for when I was Tele shopping, but it's actually a nice complement to the rest of my vintage stuff, so it's finding a place in my lineup.

Anyway, even though I'm pretty satisfied with the tone from the stock pickups, I'm looking for a little more of that signature Tele growl. Kinda Eddie Perez-ish, but a little more 'vintage' sounding; I'd say he has a pretty modern tone - in fact, he may take the growl to a pretty extreme degree, so I'd want to dial that back a little bit.

However, if possible, I don't want to lose that Cropper-ish openness to the tone. If these are mutually exclusive pickup characteristics, feel free to set me straight.

Any pickup recommendations?
