Duncan Phat Cat as tele neck pup??

I'm contemplating one to put in place of my Duncan '59; got a Duncan Broadcaster in the bridge which is staying there. Anyone tried a Phat Cat as a neck pup??

Not a Phat Cat...

But I recently tried a Steven Kersting HB-90 in my tele neck. Real thick, but clearer than a bucker. Still a tad too powerful to match up with the Duncan Antiquity in the bridge, but with a hot PU like a Muy Grande or HD S-90 it would be just nice.

I might try an Alnico polepiece P90 in the future - SK makes these in a 'bucker size too, and apparently its got a slightly clearer midrange.

You might want to consider that.

Cheers,
Trevor

I just put a Phat Cat in the neck of an American Series Tele

with an ash body, rosewood fingerboard, and modern hardware and wiring. It sounds great! It captures the P90 sound as far as I can tell, and it's pretty hot. The Jerry Donahue in the bridge just keeps up with it when the JD treble side is 1/16" from the strings and the bass side is 3/32". As a pleasant surprise, these 2 pups seem to be RWRP, as the combined setting is very quiet. The Phat Cat neck pup has plenty of high end and midrange, just enough low end, and lots of growl through an overdriven tube amp. It's pretty quiet, very clear, and looks pretty cool. I think this pickup and a Firebird-style mini-humbucker are great choices for the neck slot of a Tele with a moderately hot bridge pickup like the JD or a Fender Nocaster.
