Anyone got a HB neck and SC middle on a tele??
Looking for pics and thoughts. I was staring at a Nashville and wondered what it would be like with a 5-way and 3 pickups only the neck being a humbucker. Think Keith Richards Tele with a middle pickup.

Now...I LIKE the idea of maybe using the standard Tele neck PUP in the middle. I have a Lawrence 280 in mine which, by itself is okay, but mixed with neck or bridge isn't really anything towrite home about. I have a TV Jones Filtertron in the neck of mine. Good sounding PUP but is way louder than the bridge PUP (DiMarzio Chopper) as I would imagine any 'bucker is going to be.

Yep, I've got one. Have posted about it in passing a few times here, but haven't gotten around to photos. Will try to post pics soon.
It started out as an American Series Hot Rodded Fat Tele. Candy Apple Red, white pearloid pickguard, Fender DH-1 humbucker in the neck. I first swapped in a Duncan Lil '59 bucker in the bridge position, and later added a Fralin Vintage Hot Strat (bridge) pickup in the middle, complete with the white strat pickup cover. I mounted the middle pickup screws direct to the body, so there are no height adjustment screws for the middle position pickup--I like the clean look of the result. Currently, I've got the switching set up thusly: 1: Bridge humbucker 2: Bridge (split) + Middle 3: Bridge and Neck (both humbucker) 4: Neck (split) and Middle 5: Neck humbucker. Basically, I use the 1/3/5 positions as my faux Les Paul tones, and the 2/4 as my Strat quack settings. Sounds great to me in all positions. I just picked up a push/pull pot that I'm planning to swap in for the tone knob. The plan is to wire it up to split both humbuckers when pulled up. That will give me: 1: Bridge humbucker 2: Bridge humbucker + Middle 3: Bridge and Neck (both humbucker) 4: Neck humbucker and Middle 5: Neck humbucker plus the 5 standard Strat-style, 3 single coil settings. I really liked how the DH-1 sounded when split back when the guitar was in stock form, so that's the main reason for adding the push/pull. If the split Lil '59 turns out to sound good on its own, that will be a bonus. |
