GFS Bass pickups?
Anyone have any experience with GFS Bass pickups?
Specifically the GFS P-Bass (or Overwound version) and the Jazz Bass pickups. I've gotta crap Squier P-Bass Deluxe (neck warped) that is getting a new Mighty Mite neck, pickgaurd, pots and jack, and new other stuff (maybe bridge and tuners). To keep things under budget I'm looking at cheaper GFS pickups - which I've had great experiences with in two Partscaster Esquire builds. It's got a Jazz Bass pickup in the bridge area and a P-Bass pickup in the "neck" area.

Wow. Nobody?
OK, well I'm sorta leaning towards the "Original Fender" P and Jazz pickups now that I've had some time to think...

Sorry, thought somebody woulda jumped in by now. I'd say GFS should be a good choice, especially if they're ceramic magnets (which they likely are). The sort of qualities that make ceramics not everyone's choice for guitar -- "too" clean, high output -- make them very well suited to bass. I'm sorry I don't have any direct experience with their P-bass pickups, but I've bought several of their guitar pickups (including using one on a '51 P-bass RI) and I've been very happy with them.
Hope it helps, CS

Hmm, it looks like their Bass pickups are AlNiCo.
I compared the DC resistance of their P to the SeymourDuncan vintage (supposed to be authentic to '50s P Basses) and the GFS is slightly less hot. The Fender Originals are also AlNiCo. I am a sucker for vintage style stuff, so I might try the AlNiCo's first... my Bass amp is ridiculous on headroom and output (Ampeg SVT-4 PRO - dual power amps each at 600w @ 2ohms, 490w @ 4ohms, and 300w @ 8ohms - I can mono bridge them for 1200w @ 8ohms or 1600w @ 4 ohms). Its a friggen monster. My other Bass is a '51 RI - how did you like the GFS compared to the CIJ?
