which pots for SD CS BG 1400?
I currently have it in an esquire with 250K pots and find it pretty dark. MJ at the Seymour Duncan custom shop originally responded it was designed around 250K pots and then when I said it was dark she said it was designed for 500K pots

What woods are the body and neck? My esquire is Swamp Ash and Maple. I use 250k and it sounds just right. Granted I'm using fairly bright amps. Try turning up the treble on your amp first. It could be the easiest fix.

I am running a Super Bass with the presence, treble and middle dimed and the bass completely off. Also running a Vox AC30 in the top boost with no cut and it's still dark. The body is poplar. I think this pick up was actually made for 500 K pots

The rule of thumb for me - if anything sounds too dark after any adjustment to the amp and guitar, time for a higher pot value.
