Redd Volkaert's neck pickup...

as seen in his dvd. I suppose this is old hat and everybody on the board but me knows what his pup set-up is, but I just recently got the dvd and can't figure what that neck pup is. Any comments?

Anybody got a clue as to how well of a rythem pup that sucker is? The cool factor is just taking over at the moment with that pup, and that seems to be all I'm playing these days.

CC pickup

After reading the post on the link, I was reminded of a guitar I bought back in '71 from Leo's of Oakland. It was a '56 Les Paul Std. that some one had routed and installed a Charlie Christian pickup in. This was before such things were a felony. It had a real wide clear neck pickup sound and a plastic cover on the back, which reminded me of a Strat. Sorry this isn't a Tele story. That was a great link to read. Thanks weelie.

Redd's Hamel's

Actually... Redd has been using Alan's "Tall Neck" for a few years now. When Alan was still working as a master builder at Fender... up to about about 3 years ago, Redd came through and Alan gave him one to check out. At the time it was called the "Twisted Tele", Redd's been using it ever since! He is also using the Hamel Standard bridge pickup.

Does the Tall Neck blend well with the standard bridge in the middle position?

Jake Jones

I thought that Redd was using Jake Jones pickups for quite a while ? Has anyone heard about his experience with these and how he has compared them ?

The Hamel Tall blends great with his standard flatpole tele bridge, real nice twang in the middle, which is my favorite switch position.

Hmm!

I was under the impression Redd used Harmonic Design pups. He certainly still endorses them!
